Subject: How to find information Date: Oct, 1994 --------------------------------------------------- Both docmuments and sources for Mach are available from the same machine and subdirectory. To find out what is available use the following instructions: The best way to search the Mach archives is through a World Wide Web browser. The URL for the Mach project home page is http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs.cmu.edu/project/mach/public/www/mach.html If you do not have access to a browser, vanilla FTP can be used as follows; FTP to mach.cs.cmu.edu (128.2.209.192), as "anonymous", at the password prompt send your Username@site. You are in /usr/mach/public. If you get lost later you can cd back to here. You can then use the standard ftp commands, e.g. get, ls with relative path names for the files. The FAQ directory contains answers to frequently asked questions. The doc directory (and its subdirectories) contain technical reports and some papers. Be sure to read mach_bib.{doc,ps} before asking about documentation. The src directory contains the part of the Mach 3.0 kernel sources that are available without licenses The sup directory has sources and docmumentation for our Software Update Protocol program. The conferences directory has announcements of up-coming conferences or courses pertaining to Mach. If you are running AFS this area can be reached as /afs/cs.cmu.edu/project/mach/public. If you are unable to find a paper on-line you may be able to order a paper copy for a fee. Send mail to reports@cs.cmu.edu to request specific documents.
